The key to sustainable small business marketing results

I'm very excited to be introducing my new content series - The Blue Post-it Series.

This past 18 months has presented some personal and health challenges which have led me to re-assess how I've been approaching my business.

I realised that I was heading down a path that was not sustainable. The way I was doing things in my business was leading me to burn-out and left me feeling resistant, despondent, unmotivated and lost - especially when it came to marketing my business.

The irony of this is not lost on me. I have worked in marketing for a quarter of a century, and have been serving small businesses as a Marketing Consultant since 2010. And yet here I was struggling with marketing my own business!

I've often said to people, 'marketing is easy when it's someone else's business'. I've found when it's my own business, I come up against all sorts of internal hurdles and blocks to creativity and productivity.

So I stopped. I needed to take better care of myself. Growing my business went on the backburner while I focused on replenishing myself and my energy. Whilst I began feeling better, when it came to business, I was spinning my wheels.

I realised I needed to find a simpler way. The thought came to me:

'what advice would I give to a client in this situation?'.

The answer is very straightforward: Simplicity and Consistency.

So I thought to myself, how can the frameworks and concepts I share with clients be communicated in the most simple way possible? Something where the production is so simple (and fun for me) that I can't help but be consistent with it. Think 'minimum viable content strategy'.

The answer was staring right at me from the corner of my bookshelf - Post-Its.

I'm a total freak for stationery and I'm the self-proclaimed queen of post-its. So it seemed like the perfect answer to use the humble post-it to break down ideas related to small business marketing into simple visuals that can fit on a post-it.

So each week (hello consistency!), I will be sharing ideas and concepts presented through my favourite creative medium - a post-it note - and blue because it's my favourite colour (and 'on brand') :)

I'd love to hear your story if the 'minimum viable content strategy' resonates with you...?
